History of Bvlgari Watches

Bulgari opened its first watch boutique in 1905 on Via Condotti in Rome. Since the 1920s, Bulgari had been offering watches equipped with movements from prestigious Swiss manufacturers such as Audemars Piguet, Jaeger-LeCoultre, and Vacheron Constantin. However, it wasn’t until 1977 that the brand introduced its first in-house watch collection. That year marked the debut of the “Bulgari Bulgari” model — a timepiece distinguished by its gold case and leather strap, which remains a timeless classic to this day.

The tremendous success of this watch led to the establishment of Bulgari Time in Switzerland in 1980, a company created to oversee the design and production of Bulgari watches. In 1989, Bulgari entered into a joint venture with Girard Perregaux for the development of watch movements. The production of Bulgari timepieces is handled by its Swiss subsidiary, Bulgari Haute Horlogerie SA, also founded in 1980. The brand continues to release its own models and accessories, blending modern, complex movements with elegant, traditional designs. Bulgari uses proprietary calibers and in-house components in its watches.
